Letting Them Grow: Shape Shorten and Polish

Hey nail & beauty enthusiasts!
Ever deal with uneven nails?  Well, I’ve definitely had my share of this.  So about 2 weeks ago I decided to take matters into my own hands (no pun intended) & file them all down!
Yup, I did it, I took my crystal nail file and shaped each nail until they were all perfectly even.  Short, to say the least, but perfectly even!

Deciding to do a test to see how long it would take to grow out my nails using CND Vinylux 7 Day Polish has been quite an experiment.  I wanted to wear a soft, sheer pink that would last a week & would look good on my short nails.  I am 100% convinced that having a good clear base coat helps with the longevity of a manicure, so i used Sally Hansen’s 18K Gold Hardener for my base & 2 coats of CND Vinylux Negligee for my color.  Sealing it all in with 1 coat of Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Top Coat.

My routine went like this, as often as i could remember generally at night, I would add a coat of solar oil/garlic oil to my nails to keep them hydrated and aid in the growth process.  Only in the beginning of week two did I do a light file to my left hand to keep all my nails even.
I’m now closing in on week two and so far, so good.  My nails have begun to grow.  I’ve noticed that my left hand (dominant side) has a slightly quicker growth rate than my right.  Only in the beginning of week two during my polish change, did I need to do a light file to my left hand to make sure that both hands stayed even.  It’s been a great experiment thus far &  I even got a compliment the other day while shopping at Ulta Beauty saying my nails looked great! *Added Bonus

It’s been a really long time since I’ve worn the same nail polish for two weeks in a row, but I’d have to say I’m addicted to CND Vinylux Negligee!  I love the fact that it lasts a full 7 days and my nails seem to like it too!  No chipping or thinning.
Since the 18K Gold Hardener has gold flecks it’s a bit of a pain to remove with regular non-acetone nail polish remover.  This might be why my polish has stayed so well.  If you decide to give this a try I would suggest picking up an acetone polish remover, to speed up the polish change from week to week.  (Just douse your nails with oil after you use it and they’ll stay hydrated w/o damage)

My goal would be to grow out my nails to the length shown in the photo below (back in 2013)

Maybe your nails had oil on them before applying the CND Vinylux? Try wiping each nail with acetone or non-acetone nail polish remover prior to applying your base coat. I’ve been using a clear base coat before using any of my CND Vinylux polishes. I haven’t had a problem with chipping when using an everyday top coat, but they do recommend using their 7DAY Vinylux top coat for a finisher. Hope this helps.
