Natural Remedies Treating Dry, Weak, Brittle Nails

Well it was bound to happen…

With all of the polish changing, buffing etc.. my nails have finally decided to tell me to STOP IT!
I rarely.. and i mean rarely have a chip or break… and when this happens I start to get concerned… what am i doing wrong?  I immediately turned to the nail polish remover that I have been currently using.  It’s a salon grade, non-acetone remover.  But it doesn’t have any of the conditioners or strengtheners that a Cutex brand may have.
I also looked at the surface of my nails.. they seem a little dry and not as vibrant as they normally look.  I was thinking to myself… am i dehydrated or is my diet off?  I have been under a little bit of stress lately… but really?  Breaking, brittle dry nails??? COME ON!!!

So, I sucked it up and filed them all down … shorter than normal.  I happen to have some Vitamin E gel pearls.   I broke 2 open and saturated my nails with the guey liquid and went to bed.  The next morning I woke up and I couldn’t believe it… they looked a lot better!  But i wasn’t out of the woods yet.

I  decided to use a new product I recently picked up by Cuccio called Cuticle Conditioning Butter Stick
It’s like chapstick for your nails!  This is a great product to have in your purse at all times!  Leaves NO greasy film on your hands & it invisibly moisturizes your cuticles!

I also ventured to my local health food store in search of some moisturizing oils.  I picked up a small bottle of Castor Oil, Orange Oil, Coconut Oil, Garlic Gel Pearls & some Shea Butter.   Sounds like a weird mix but seriously.. I  need to revamp my nails STAT!

Castor Oil  Castor Oil

Castor Oil is a highly emollient oil, often used in lipsticks and other beauty aids. Castor oil is the perfect skin care product as it is naturally rich in anti-oxidants and works as a deep conditioner to heal both skin and hair. Because of castor oil’s healing qualities, it is often use to soothe skin disorders such as eczema and psoriasis and can help to thicken hair and reduce hair loss.

A little goes a long way.  Rub a small amount over your nails… preferably at bedtime.  When you wake up the residue will be gone and your hands and nails will be moisturized and feeling stronger.

Garlic Oil Perles

Garlic Oil Perles

Garlic has been shown to have broad-spectrum anti-microbial activity against bacteria, viruses, worms and fungi.  Garlic is taken today to help combat certain viruses, such as those responsible for genital herpes, smallpox, the common cold and influenza. Garlic is also taken to combat candidiasis, athlete’s foot and other pathogenic fungi.

It also helps strengthen & grown nails!

Another @ bedtime regimen
Just deal with the odor, ’cause it’s far from pleasant.. 😉  Break one of these gel perles and pour over your nails…

Coconut Oil

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil contains vitamin E, is rich in antioxidants and its high content of Lauric Acid help revitalize your skin to look softer and younger. It will absorb easily into your skin without feeling greasy. Coconut Oil can be used as face moisturizer, skin lotion, massage oil, after sun cream and protects against against dry and aging skin. Coconut oil helps improve symptoms of skin infections and reduces blemishes and spots. Since coconut oil is suitable for all skin types

Rub over your hands and nails.

Orange OilOrange Oil

Essential oil of orange can be helpful in curing many diseases ie. nail fungus and in creating an atmosphere of happiness. The orange essential oil is extracted from the peel of the fruit and further processed through cold compress to obtain a viable form.

Daub a little of this solution on your nails even if you don’t have a fungus… this is great to use periodically to prevent infections.

Shea Butter

Shea Butter

Organic Shea butter has been used to help heal burns, sores, scars, dermatitis, psoriasis, dandruff, eczema and stretch marks. It may also help diminish wrinkles by moisturizing the skin, promoting cell renewal, and increasing circulation. Shea butter also contains cinnamic acid, a natural protectant against harmful UV rays.

Rub all  over your hands and nails.  Another great bedtime regimen.

With all of these great natural products, who needs to go to the store and buy some EXPENSIVE, OVER RATED, PROCESSED moisturizer that won’t work!!

I suggest picking up at least the Coconut Oil, Castor Oil and Garlic Pearls… use them for a few weeks daily and you’ll see.. your nails will have grown faster and stronger.

These products have helped me and I’ve only been using them for a few days!  Give it a try… you have nothing to loose and only wonderful, strong nails to gain!

Please let me know if you try any of these products and your outcome… 🙂
