Essie Mani Cam: 22nd Annual SAG Awards

Hey there nail enthusiasts!
Sorry for the delay on my blog posts!  In case you didn’t know, not only do i love fashion and nails… I’m 100% consumed with the sport of powerlifting!
I actually compete about 2 times a year.  It’s another one of my hobbies that keep me quiet busy.  🙂  So, between my full-time day job (advertising/web design/furniture buyer),  painting & blogging about nail stuff for, I also powerlift and train 5 days/wk.  In case you don’t know what powerlifting is, here’s a really brief summary of the sport.

Powerlifting consists of 3 main lifts:  Squat, Bench Press & Deadlift

In a competition you have 3 chances to complete each lift all while trying to increase your overall total lbs/kgs.  There are no re-do’s and there are no 1/2 squats.  Each federation has their own rules etc.. Every powerlifter has a goal, to increase their numbers on the platform.  (For many powerlifters gym #’s don’t mean much in the grand scheme of things.. cause it’s what you do on the platform that counts.  When you’re put in a competition atmosphere and need to perform each lift to the best of your ability on the same day – weight classes are also involved in this too.  It’s extremely challenging and extremely rewarding!  My most recent competition was an IPA meet Saturday Feb., 6th held in South Windsor, CT. at the gym i train at called Lightning Fitness (one of the best facilities to train at in CT if you’re a serious competitor)

I wore knee wraps to squat which are considered RAW in the IPA federation.  Without going into more detail about raw vs. wearing single & multi-ply suits.. here’s what i accomplished on Saturday.  I Squatted 235lbs / Benched 145lbs & Deadlifted 340lbs. for a total of 720lbs. at a body weight of 145.5lbs.  All in all, im happy with my performance (minus my squat)  Squatting for some comes easy..  for me it’s a building strength/work in progress.  🙂 (increased my total +35lbs)

Anywhoo… preparing for this meet is what’s been taking up so much of my time & where my focus has been at lately.  If you follow me on instagram @thetrendynail now you’ll know why i post some powerlifting stuff in between my nail stuff. 🙂  My whole thing is .. girls can be girly and still be strong … it’s a lifestyle and not a resolution & yes, i have a boyfriend… hehehe..  🙂

Now onto the nails…  as fashion week quickly approaches us here’s a lil recap of what went down at the 22nd annual SAG Awards held on January 30th, 2016.
