Chrome nails

Hey there nail enthusiasts!
Hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas & Happy Hanukkah weekend!
If you happen to follow me on Facebook you’ll know that I’ve been dabbling with the use of chrome powder on natural nails with NO GEL needed!
I posted two “live” video’s showing how I was able to achieve that cool chrome nail look without the use of gel polish and to my amazement it actually worked out really well!

It’s definitely a trial and error/work in progress achieving a long lasting chrome manicure, but i’m definitely down for the challenge.

I tried a few different techniques that i’ll be sharing with you.  First is how to get the look of solid chrome nails using natural nail polish and no top coat.

The key is finding a good sticky base coat for your chrome powder to adhere to.
Here’s two options that worked well for me.

  • Clear Base Coat:  Stick With It by Morgan Taylor
  • Clear Base Coat:  Azature Signature Top Coat (meant for a top coat but works great as a base coat too)
  • Clear Base Coat: Azature Gelgasm Better on Top (meant for a top coat but works great as a base coat too)

Step 1:  One coat of Morgan Taylor Stick With It over all your nails
— Wait a minute for the clear to dry but still have a bit of tackiness.
Step 2:  Dip your applicator into the chrome powder (less is more)  and gently rub over your nails
Step 3:  If you need a brighter chrome appearance than repeat steps 1 & 2 but try using Azature Gelgasm Better on Top or Azature Signature Top Coat … wait for it to dry about 30 seconds and re-apply the chrome powder.

Now you’re ready to face the world with gorgeous chrome nails!
No top coat needed!

This manicure lasted me about 5 days.  A little bit of slight dulling by the 3rd day, but the results were well worth it!

Here’s a look at one of my “live” feeds from facebook.. a raw experiment working with the chrome powder from

I discovered a water based top coat that can be used over chrome powder to help prolong your natural nail polish chrome nail look.  Retail: $9.20

Here’s another two great looks to try for the holidays/winter season.

  1. Chrome gradient over a pale pink
  2. Chrome gradient over a pale pink with added glitter top coat

The sparkle in both these manicures is absolutely mesmerizing and the fact that it’s done with natural nail polish is a HUGE BONUS!

First is the chrome gradient over the pale pink.
Here’s what i used to achieve this look:

  1. Clear base coat
  2. Sheer Pink BaseVinylux Negligee
  3. Silver Chrome Powder
  4. Fan brush

Check out the video below

For the glitter over chrome nail look all you need to do is add 1 coat of Azature Glacier over each nail and a clear top coat and you’re good to go!

If you like the look of chrome nails I would highly recommend trying out this technique.
With or without a top coat you’ll be really happy with the end results.

I would recommend either buying the water based top coat Sophi mentioned above, or going without a top coat.
If you use a regular top coat the chrome will turn sparkly and you’ll loose that slick non glitter chrome effect.

You can also try using the chrome over a color ie. black or red for another chrome effect with a bit of a tint.

I like how subtle it is compared to a very bold mirror chrome. It’s elegantly simple.
