My Chocolate Cupcake Manicure

Chocolate-Cupcake-Nails-The Trendy Nail

Okay.. so it might not be as delicious as an actual chocolate cupcake from Sprinkles.com but after finishing this manicure that’s all i could think about!  So instead of calling it a chocolate gradient mani why not make it more fun and call it my chocolate cupcake manicure, simply delicious and office approved!  Of course I must share this amazing new cupcake sweet shop that’s making it’s way around the US called Sprinkles.com — It’s a must see & definite stop on your next visit to NYC.

Sprinkles Cupcakes and Ice Cream Delights!

So onto the nails… I recently received 6 new shades from Zoya in their Naturel Deux (2) Collection.  6 fabulous darker neutrals for fall, nicely complimenting the release of the original Naturel Collection released in late February 2014 by Zoya.

Today I wanted to try a gradient with the 3 steps of neutrals from the collection.  After using just these three i was extremely happy with the way they applied and looked on my nails.  People with fare skin tones will love the darker shades and those of you with darker complexions will probably be drawn to the lighter shades.

For those of you searching for a subtle nail design you’ll like this too.  My skin is tanned at the moment & these color really gave me a natural, neutral nail look perfect for an office manicure & matching virtually any outfit.  You don’t need any special hand, eye coordination for this DIY manicure.  I simply used brushes from the bottles and don’t worry… no need for tape or straight line tools either!

For any extra cuticle clean up a small q-tip dipped in nail polish remover will do the trick!

Each color from the Naturel Deux collection can be purchased at www.zoya.com $9/ bottle

Step 1:  After applying a clear base coat to your nails.  Start out with 1 coat of light tan.  I used Spencer by Zoya. Step-1-DSC04920

Step 2: Using a medium shade of chocolate nail polish, start about 1/4 of the way up from your cuticle, brushing towards the tip of your nail.  Create a stagger step pattern by making 3 attached horizontal lines.  Start each line closer to the tip of your nail.  I used Chanelle by Zoya for my medium chocolate nail polish.  See in the picture below, how I began staggering my lines & what the end result should look like. Step 3:  Following the same process in step 2.  Using a dark chocolate nail polish, create another layer of 3 attached staggered stepped lines.  Make sure to leave some space for the medium chocolate to show.  I used Emilia by Zoya for my dark chocolate nail polish.Chocolate Cupcake Nails Step-3-DSC04927

Step 4: Finally top it all off with your favorite dry fast top coat for instant shine and a flawless finish.  I did something different this time and used my CND Vinylux Top Coat.

I wanted to try out my CND Vinyl Lux Clear Top Coat, to see if my manicure would last longer.  Reason being is that by day 3 or day 4 I’ll usually see a chip here and there.  CND Vinylux touts itself as the 7 Day Weekly natural nail polish.  Hardening with natural light and becoming more durable.  Developed to be worn with matching CND Vinylux colors I thought I’d try it over my Zoya nail polish and see if I could get the same results.

I was very pleased with the outcome!  It turned out more glossy than my Essie Good To Go top coat and just as glossy as my Seche Vite.  Plus the longevity of my manicure is still going on strong at day 5!  I haven’t seen any oxidation either which is a plus.  Many times my polish will start to change color due to the sunlight… So far colors have been on point.  🙂

Here’s a pic taken with my cell phone of my left hand… Only one slight chip on the side of my thumb.  Otherwise it’s still looking great and no signs of lifting or chipping on any of the other fingers.. This goes for my right hand too.  (the tone of the photo is a lil’ red ’cause i’m using a cell phone  It actually looks more like my swatches above )

I have also been applying cuticle / garlic oil on the daily over all of my nails for nail strengthening and hydration.

Day5- Zoya & CND Vinylux

VINYLUX® Weekly Polish is a breakthrough polish that endures a week of fashion perfection…without a base coat! Exposure to natural light activates the patent-pending ProLight Technology™ to deliver week-long wear. While ordinary polishes break down over time, VINYLUX® Weekly Polish actually becomes more durable!  cnd vinylux  I would highly recommend picking up a bottle of this polish.  It takes about 5-10 minutes to completely dry, so don’t expect a super quick polish and go.  You’ll need to give yourself a bit of time just to let the top coat harden.  Well worth it though… I promise!
